My name is Jennifer Freeman.  I've been playing piano for over 34 years now and teaching piano for fourteen years this fall, with recent and exciting changes to my teaching style. 

Traditionally trained as a child and young adult in classical piano, as a teacher I grew bored and frustrated with traditional methods. 

During graduate studies at UNM I took a class called Arts-in-Medicine, which had a profound effect on my current teaching modality.  I saw firsthand how combining and using different arts disciplines could express meaning beyond medical lingo, diagnoses, and treatments.  For people and their loved ones with illness, going through trauma, or being in the hospital, these artistic experiences were unexpectedly welcome. 

My mind exploded with the possibilities for students and for my own teaching style.  Could combining different creative arts create a more meaningful and a more effective experience for students during their lessons?  I had to try it out myself while teaching.

Throughout the years my interests have included piano and music, but also other creative arts.  I've expanded into writing; website creating; visual arts; crafts; freeform dancing, movement, and stretching; breath awareness; the holistic art of Reiki; soft-style and internal martial arts of Tai Chi and Qigong; and an interest in other holistic healing arts. 

While piano was my first passion, I now consider myself a multi-genre artist.  I bring the wide range of creative arts mentioned into Creative Arts Pianistry, interweaving the best concepts into my sessions for a whole-self, new modality.  

I'm thankful to work with many talented, unique, and adventurous students.  They were willing to let me try out my bold ideas for the last two years, and both they and I have ended up loving it!  Now it's your turn to experience Creative Arts Pianistry sessions, in Albuquerque, NM.
